Visitors to local summer shows may be surprised to spot one of the familiar Nailsea and District Community Transport (NDCT) buses looking a little different this year. Instead of transporting passengers, for the weekends it transforms into The Blooming Community Bus – a vibrant community garden on wheels celebrating friendship, connection and the joy of spending time together and sharing a cup of tea.
Designed and created by a group of NDCT members with a shared passion for horticulture, the project showcases not only beautiful plants and creative displays but also the friendships and sense of belonging that have blossomed through working together.
Visitors are encouraged to pause, chat and enjoy a moment of connection and young visitors can take part in a butterfly hunt!
The group are now prize winners having secured second place for their display in a teacup at Tickenham Flower show!
Jean, one of the members who helped design and grow the garden, said:
“It has been brilliant to work together to create something fun that reflects the belonging we feel as part of the NDCT community.”
Kate, Business and Community Manager at NDCT, said:
“Seeing the group’s passion for plants and horticulture has been inspiring. From designing and growing the garden to painting furniture and crafting bunting, everyone has brought something special. It’s been fab to watch friendships grow through a shared interest and goal too!”
The Blooming Community Bus has already visited Portishead Flower Show, Nailsea and District Horticultural Societies Summer Show and Tickenham Flower Show. It will continue its tour throughout the summer at:
• Clevedon Flower Show: 29th and 30th August
• Long Ashton Horticultural Society Flower Show: 5th September
• Backwell Village Show: 19th September
