Nailsea and District Community Transport are seeking part time drivers for working shifts within the hours of 6.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, on various services and routes.

Minibus driver awareness training will be provided and candidates may also be asked to undertake Safeguarding Level 1 and First Aid training.
MAIN DUTIES
- To be responsible for the vehicle whilst in operation including the safety of all passengers.
- To show empathy when transporting passengers with a range of needs.
- Operate passenger lifts and secure wheelchair passengers in the vehicles.
- To treat passengers as individuals, helping where necessary and gently encourage them to attend school when required.
- Assist passengers on and off the vehicles, ensuring safety.
- Carry out daily and fortnightly safety checks and be responsible for ensuring regular vehicle cleanliness and maintenance after shifts.
- Ensure vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.
- Plan routes and complete necessary vehicle documentation.
- Ensure passengers are transported with their safety and comfort being of paramount consideration.
- Assist in the training of new volunteer drivers and passenger assistants
- Other reasonable tasks identified by the Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Full clean driving licence with category D1 entitlement (pre 1997) or a PCV D licence.
- Aged over 21.
- Enjoy driving and have a warm friendly manner.
- To observe all transport regulations to ensure compliance with the Highway Code.
- To be responsible for the vehicle whilst in operation including the safety of all passengers.
- Patient, caring and empathetic with an understanding of disability.
- Physically capable of assisting service users with limited mobility in line with moving and handling procedures.
- Warm, friendly and cheerful personality.
- Excellent communication skills, taking care to listen and communicate effectively to passengers who may be struggle to communicate verbally.
- Ability to work well as part of a small team under pressure.
- Ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work as part of a team with both paid and volunteer staff.
- Knowledge of local area.
- Ability to be flexible with hours.
- Good basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Enhanced DBS will be carried out, prior to employment.
